Brittany Higgins
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
Brittany Higgins joins The Balanced Therapy as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with extensive experience across residential, crisis, and outpatient behavioral health settings. She works with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, grief, and burnout, drawing on evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Motivational Interviewing, and trauma-informed care to help clients build insight, develop effective coping strategies, and create meaningful change.
Her clinical background spans the full continuum of care. Brittany has practiced in outpatient psychiatric and counseling settings, supported individuals through acute psychiatric crises in a hospital emergency department, and provided treatment within residential addiction and detox programs—experience that gives her a steady, grounded presence with clients facing even the most complex and high-stakes moments.
A particular strength of Brittany's practice is her work with trauma. She is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), an extensively researched, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their emotional charge. Rather than requiring clients to talk through painful experiences in detail, EMDR uses guided bilateral stimulation—such as side-to-side eye movements—to support the brain's natural healing process, helping clients move from feeling stuck in past events toward relief, resilience, and a renewed sense of safety. Brittany integrates this approach with trauma-informed care and mindfulness techniques to meet each client where they are.
Currently serving as a Clinical Director, Brittany brings a leader's perspective to the therapy room, with particular depth in crisis intervention and risk assessment, dual-diagnosis treatment, and program development. A Florida Qualified Supervisor and SIFI-certified clinician, she has spent much of her career training and mentoring licensed clinicians, registered interns, and graduate-level students—supporting their clinical development while upholding strong ethical standards. Her EMDR training was completed through an EMDRIA-approved program, the field's recognized standard for quality EMDR education.
Above all, Brittany strives to provide a warm, supportive, and collaborative therapeutic environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered throughout their healing journey—meeting each person with compassion, respect, and a genuine belief in their capacity for growth.
